A new game

I've been on an articulation kick lately, particularly triple tonguing. Here's what I've been doing of late to improve and built it:

In your Arban book, p. 155, no. 1. Set the metronome to mm half note=100. Play the excercise both ascending and descending, using 3 patterns of triple tongue:
  1. ttk ttk t
  2. tkt ktk t
  3. tkt tkt t
Increase speed by 4 markings each time, so that in 6 attempts you are at Arban's indication of 124. Rest the tongue as needed between reps, but try to go ascending and descending before taking a break. Vary dynamics once fluency is gained. For further challenge, transpose for trumpet in A, C, D, Eb and E.

I found that tkt ktk t is cleanest out of all 3 at 124, and tkt tkt t gets a bit squirrely at around 112.

Take out Honegger Intrada and try the triple tongue section on the 2nd page...

ps.: Thanks to Manny... go listen to his Night on Bald Mountain recording and you'll hear where my inspiration came from for this.

Re: A new game

Thanks Glenn,

Just for fun when you're in the groove, try tkt tkt t or ktk tkt k in E.
