| Mezzo Forte User | Re: new student with open jaw problem That is counter to everything I have ever heard about playing without tension. Pushing his jaw forward could cause injury over time (such as TMJ inflammation). Someone please correct me if I am wrong...

![]() | Re: new student with open jaw problem You`r wrong. Correcting a physical problem such as this can only help. Watch any pro lead player and you will see they all try to keep their embouchure face as even [flat?] as they can, not always perfect but better than pointing at the floor. This helps distributes mouthpiece pressure more evenly on both upper and lower lips, I`m talking about building over time a real upper register not only a 4th or 5th above the staff. When done correctly I`ve had students in 5th grade playing C`s above the staff and able to hit F`s above that with no strain. Last edited by Al Innella; 08-09-2008 at 10:35 AM. |
