Re: Open embouchure?

So when you say "open aperture", what exactly do you mean?

* Is it a state where the two lips flap around by themselves, never meeting,
* or is it a state where the open phase and closed phase exist for an equal
amount of time each cycle
* or is it something else?

Re: Open embouchure?

Some players "open up" their embouchure via rolling out the bottom lip to expose the fleshy red part inside to the lower lip. Perhaps this is what is meant by the term open embouchure.

Re: Open embouchure?

Can I just say!
Thank you for this thread...
Not having a tutor I relied on reading from the net when I started playing 6 months ago.
I read this thread and realised I was playing with my mouth open...
Since switching (after reading this post and many others on the net) to a closed embouchure mr range has increased, my volume has gone down two fold (I can now play quietly) I don't run out of breath after 2 seconds and I really love the tone I now have!
So many thanks!

Adder
