trptcolin is an unknown quantity at this point
The 3-leg K&M clarinet stand is, I think, a much stabler and better fit for a piccolo trumpet than the 4-leg (the legs are much longer). You won't be able to store the stand in the bell, but I think it's worth it.

p.s. oops---before the edit, i called the less stable (in my experience) stand a 5-leg, which I don't think exist. i was thinking of the 4-leg.

I think I am using a 3 leg K&M flute stand. It seems too small to safely hold a clarinet. I bought is years ago after trying almost every stand in the store.

But then what do I know, I am a trumpet player!!!

It depends on the bell. The stock bell on a Schilke (3-valve) Eb wouldn't fit on my K&M 5-leg Bb stand. But an Eb with a C trumpet bell (Bach 229 or 239) fits just fine on my Bb stand. The only problem with the 229 bell is that it can stick to the stand if you push it down too far.
