The original Olds company shut down in 1979 after beginning with trombones in 1910. In those 69 years a number of industry icons, F. A. Reynolds, Don Agard, and Zigmant Kanstul plied and or learned their trade at the Olds Co. The famous trumpeter, Rafael Mendez. endorsed Olds instruments and one bearing his name was designed in the 50's. Their quality trumpets included the student model Ambassador and ranged up the the Mendez horn. Good instruments were built from the 30s until the late 60s when overproduction resulted in poorer quality.
Today there is another company selling Olds instruments, but it is not the same set of products, they just bear the Olds name. I don't know about their quality, but have read that they are not great.

Re: Pictures of your trumpet

If anybody needs a place to send these horns if they're taking up too much space or something, I'd be happy to pay the shipping and handling to my house in PA. PM me for the address.
:)

Re: Pictures of your trumpet

Well, for that matter, send them to me! All I've got to show for my playing is a student model Bach that's getting old fast!

It's a tone intensifier. Here's a link to a newer model, I don't believe they sell mine any more. Brass Review.com - Sound Sleeve Mouthpiece Tone Intensifier

Re: Pictures of your trumpet

Here's a new "artsy" pic of my Bach 184G cornet, and my main trumpet, a '77 Bach 43 ML Strad. Nothing too special about it (other than a 3rd valve water key), except it's in terrific shape for its age, and it plays great.
