Man...November really stinks to miss too. February is pretty empty; so is January. November/December and April/May are definitely out for me, though (as is July); between judging and concert schedules and proximity to concerts...just can't bring myself to miss there. August? Early-mid September?

How does one build a fee schedule?

The NY Brass Conference's are great....

I vote NY. It will give me a chance to get out winter coats from the vacuum bags... (i love those things)

I would love to attend a TM conference. I have to agree with Manny's idea of St. Louis, due to it's central location (although Nashville wouldn't be a bad choice, either).

More importantly than which city, I believe, is the quality of the venue. It would be so nice to find a venue with plenty of rooms to try out horns, so that people may actually have a chance of "hearing" what they sound like on each horn, rather than trying to blow over all of the "almost double c's." That, to me, would be one of the best benifits of a smaller conference.

Of course, like all the others have stated, $$, location, and dates would be the defining factors to me.

NickD has a spectacular aura about
Ummmm...

I'd vote for Chicago for the following reasons:

1.) Centrally located
2.) GREAT transportation network airports, trains, subway, el)
3.) CSO
4.) Andy's Jazz Club
5.) Jazz Showcase
6.) Green Mill Club
7.) Joe's Be-Bop Cafe
8.) Too many other jazz clubs to name
9.) A vibrant downtown area that goes to all hours
10.) Millar Brass
11.) Lots of university and semi-pro community orchestras
12.) LOT'S of brass players!
13.) Chicago Jazz Ensemble
14.) Hot House Jazz Club
15.) Buddy Guy's
16.) Over a dozen really cool big museums
17.) Navy Pier
18.) LOT'S of open jam sessions where you can sit in!
19.) LOT'S of big bands where you can hang and even sit in!
20.) Music ranging from classical, to trad jazz to stragiht ahead to avante garde to blues to Latin, to whatever!
and many many more (like, I live here, but let's not go there).

I love St. Louis, but the downtown area gets pretty quiet at night, even on weekends. It seems like the things that are happening are either in the burbs or on Laclede's Landing or on the river boats. The fare is limited. Transportation can be an issue. They don't have a mass transit system like NYC or Chicago.

We could hit up the CSO section for clinics. We could try make arrangements with one of the Universities (NU, DePaul, Roosevelt, Columbia College, UIC, U of C, etc) to host. Herseth??? Butler??? Guyer??? The possibilities are legion.

You folks are still talking WINTER right? It doesn't make sense to have another "summer" gathering.

Chicago sounds good too... free CHOP SAVER to all that attend??? I remember how cold Chicago gets in winter... no cold beer drinking... gonna have to be the hard stuff to stay warm!!!
