Re: Practice

I had just moved to Germany, didn't know anyone, had no TV and my wife was working. Kept it up for about a year, and the gigs started pouring in. I got in pretty good shape, though, and could play double C's on a Monette B-1. Then we started having kids, and things changed a bit.....

Re: Practice

Vulgano Brother: When you practice 6.5 hours is your horn literally on you face 6.5 hours or is some of that time rest?

Re: Practice

Not face time, but not hanging out at TM, either! The time with the horn off the face is spent "replaying" what came out the horn, comparing that to the imagined ideal, reviewing breathing, the feel while playing, any noticable muscle movements, etc. The idea is to be "immersed" in the instrument--it helps with concentration at the gigs later on--the rule "rest as much as you play" doesn't mean that we get to be brain dead half the time.
