Okay ... now that the convulsions from laughter have eased and I can type again:

That was classic. I kept reading post after post wondering when the heck someone was going to call this hoax out. It took a bit.

Seriously folks, if the P.D.Q. Bach reference didn't jump out at you, you MUST go to the store and get one (though that raises a question -- ever since the Sam Goody at MoA turned into a hip-hop junk shop, I don't know where to find good classical and Jazz recordings anymore -- can anyone in the Twin Cities area help me out here?). My favorite? The Birthday Ode to Big Daddy Bach. (Though Oedipus Tex is also a MUST have -- and listen to these on a good sound system, you'll be glad you did).

I think Greg said it best: "Suckers!!"

But that was classic!! Thanks for the laughs, folks....

Hehehe. I think my dad still has the Sidd Finch issue of SI at the house. Classic.

Ouch. It was the "sham-sky" trumpet, plus the fact that a good friend just texted me to tell me he had got engaged that woke me up. Oh dear

It was April 1st SOMEWHERE (like across the pond).

I though I gave it away with the PDQ Bach reference. I couldn't come up with a mention of Sidd off the top of my head that would keep it going.

I'm not in the Twin Cities, but try this: check out http://www.naxos.com . It's a relatively little known brand that produces CDs of all types (originally only classical) and sells them for DIRT CHEAP! The technical quality is excellent...since they're a relatively new outfit most of their recordings are DDD (digital all the way). They make use of a lot of some of the "former" Eastern European orchestras for the classics (although they also have started doing a lot of work making "classical jazz", Sousa, etc. available as well).

Their prices? Generally less than $10 per CD.... CANADIAN! So that's $8 US. They have a fantastic catalogue (you can access it online).

Sorry to sound like a tout for their firm... I have nothing invested in them (except a rapidly growing personal collection). But they sure beat the heck out of some of those "Big Brands".

I now return you to your annually scheduled April reality checkup.

(Been waiting to see who was going to do what this morning.... as you may know, Canada has "gone metric". The local TV station did their weather in the "old" system this morning... wonder how many folks noticed?)

I seem to remember an old hippy-run place (maybe in St. Paul) that was a fabulous place for jazz "back in the day". The last time I was there was probably around 2000. Does anyone remember the name of that place. It had a quirky name.

The only thing that had me wondering was when Manny mentioned he was going to be flown to the university by helicopter. Theres no college that would spend that much on a trumpet player, lol.

Otherwise, excellent prank. And I thought I was going to get by today without being fooled....

Mr. Harbison,

Are you maybe thinking the Dakota? Not sure about the hippies, but it was in St. Paul. It is now in downtown Minneapolis.
