  | Re: In search of that tone. I saw Wynton live a couple days ago. What a sound! The next day my band director and I were discussing exactly what you're talking about: he has a very "earthy" tone, as my director put it. He's a really humble guy, and I had the chance to speak to him for a few minutes (my trumpet teacher pulled some strings and got me backstage =]). I'm sure that if you had the oppurtunity to meet him he'd be glad to sit down and talk to you about what you're looking for. Anyways, good luck, and keep playing.
