Yeah, Wynton's tone is all over the place. He is a master at changing timbre. If you get a chance, listen to his "Legend of Buddy Bolden" on Live at Village Vanguard. His tone goes from insanely fat, warm to very bright, and yes, almost "tinny." Beautiful!

hmmmm....
So it seems that most people tend to model their sound after someone, whether it be Herseth, Miles, etc. Where does the individuality come in to where someone says, "This is MY sound."? Someone also said versatile, which yes, our sound does need to be versatile to change depending on our performance needs, but let's not get too vague. NEXT?!

Noone is going to sound exactly like someone else, we've all had different life experiences and try as we might, we won't sound the same. But I'd like to sound like Conrad (even though I don't really).

Resonant.

I want to hear metallic objects around me vibrate sympathetically when I play.

I also like to feel like I am seeing the note create in front of me when I play.

James Thompson's sound is also VERY nice. He makes the buzzing book almost fun!

that is what I think best fits. No matter how the greats adjust their tone or sound concept to fit the music it is always inspiring!
