![]() | Sweat and Tone Production This past Thursday night, my brass quintet had our concert. The conditions in the hall were awful...it had to be near 90 degrees on the stage. Both the other trumpet player and I were having some tone production problems. Both of us are sure it was due to the fact that we were sweating. I had a handkerchief (which I usually have with me when I perform) which I used to wipe my lips off periodically, but it still wasn't perfect. How do you combat this?? Louie

![]() | It's just kind of wierd...I wonder if it's partially just being plain HOT while playing, and the sweat being part of the problem. It's really annoying!

![]() | In hot conditions it's really important to drink enough water both before you start your gig and during the gig. If you're dehydrated you're not going to play well. I play with wet lips and still don't like too much sweat on my lips when playing either. I can't imagine though what else would solve that problem other than a handkerchief..
