![]() | I'd certainly suggest: The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli Available at Amazon for $11.98, and worth much more! Very much a classic.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My short list: 1) naxos: the art of the baroque trumpet with Niklas Eklund(many volumes) 2) BIS: Stockholm Chamber Brass - Ewald Quintets and "Heavy Brass" -Jan Bach, Hans-Werner-Henze !!!!!!!!!!!ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3) Teldec: Sergei Nakariakov-Echoes from the past 4) Summit: The Legendary Trumpet Virtuosity of Rafael Mendez 5) Maynard Ferguson: Live at the Top 6) Wynton Marsalis: Carnaval All of these played by musicians that created new boundries for trumpet players. Naturally the big list must include, Louis Armstrong, Ed Tarr, Timofey Dokschizer, Bud Herseth, Maurice Andre, Harry James, Miles Davis, Dizzie, Art Farmer, Carol Reinhardt, Ed Carroll and Manny Laureano and thousands of other "greats"! Biggest disappointment: Haydn Concerto with Mark Bennett/The English Concert/Trevor Pinnock. He should have practiced at least an additional 6 months -preferably with a metronome. If it has to be this bad, we don't need a recording of it (Reinhold Friedrich does a MUCH better job also on the keyed trumpet).

I'm playing mainly jazz and, when I listen to classical music, my preferences aren't trumpet works. I find that most of the "trumpet cassical albums" are not very essential music. You know, these guys who play double and triple tonguing during circular breathing. It's a caricature, I know, but I prefer to listen to Bach's H-moll mass (where there are not easy trumpet parts, too), Mahler's symphony, vocal works or Schubert chamber music, you know what I mean? But in your list, perhaps should i listen to Niklas Eklund, I find that baroque trumpet is very beautiful. (baroque music with piccolo trumpet is not my cup of tea) Fred | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you are in for a real treat with Eklund. I also listen to alot of non-brass music. A must have here would be any CD of "the real group" a swedish a cappella group that imho smokes the Manhattan Transfer.
