![]() | Tone has got to be one of the primary concerns for all musicians (not just trumpet players). How we achieve what we deem to be a respectable tone is a debate for the various teachers and teaching methods. The definition of a respectable tone is also one that could be up for debate. An audience won't turn up to hear someone scream out a dubble z if it sounds terrible. Musicality should probably be at the very top of the list. |

![]() | I agree with Trumpet Mike. Musicality. I think about it in terms of being lyrical as well. If I'm not the one 'singing' the song then I want my efforts to be focused on accompanying and supporting the section that is. It is a combination of air support, tone and technique that creates the lyrical presentation. When you think about it, its just like singing.

| Mezzo Piano User | With all ofthis talk about sound and air I would have to say that you can use a ton of air and still have a bad sound. Sound is everything. Find your sound and alot of other things tend to fall into place.
