I know of very few trumpet players that won't let someone try their horn if they make a decent first impression. Take your time and beg any and everybody. Go to music stores and tell them that you are looking but will not buy today. If you find one that is good, see if you can rent it for a while. Take notes!

The other possibility is to buy used and cheap in ebay and resell (or collect......)
