Re: Who would you choose?

I'm a big Phil Smith fan, but I'm not greedy I'd settle for anyone better than I am and that list is far to long to publish.

Man,if some "angel" came to me offering to grant such things,
I would know it was really the devil come to trick me out of
my own sound!

Re: Who would you choose?

What a great thread!!!! And, what a great list of Trumpet players. Although I tend to agree with those who would send that angle packin' (and you know it would have to be Michael) I must side with those who cited Bud Herseth and Maynard Ferguson as the greatest of our time.
The most cool thing about both of these guys is the way they loved, no, make that LOVED the instrument and how they made me love the instrument. I am forever in their debt.

Re: Who would you choose?

Paul Desmond!

Oh wait, wrong instrument so make that Chet Baker.

I'm not on heroin yet so maybe I'd be even better (but then again, maybe not). Miles too but I couldn't begin to imagine making the musical sojourn he did.
