When the whole Zeus thing was going down a couple of years ago I always read how the horn was modeled after someones Mt Vernon. If that is the case why does it look nothing like a Mt Vernon

True enough.

Of course, there are many new horn designs and hundreds of used ones that can be had for $1800 or less that will outperform a new Strad, IMO.
Agreed.

And the ZTR 900 isn't really a copy of a new Strad. It's modeled after Alex's old Mt. Vernon, which would be much more expensive if you wanted one.
The ZTR 900 is a Kanstul interpretation of the tall wrap (post 50's) Bach Strad.
The bell flare, the leadpipe taper, and the bore are the same, but the rest is different.

It is in no way an exact copy of ANY Bach trumpet.

Does it have to look like one to play like one?

I play Zeus instruments. I have the flugel, both Bb's, cornet, C, and picc. If you have any serious questions without trying to start anything, I'd love to talk to you about them. They work great for me. But there are different strokes for different folxs. Take care.

Agreed! I play on Strads myself, but I've played Bear's Zeus horns, and they're pretty dang sweet. (I'm a huge fan of the flugel in particular). The Bb and C's played really REALLY well too. I would recommend the Zeus horns to anyone. I'm considering gettin one myself!
