I think the smiling part was fufilled when I almost started to play the Aria con Variazioni with a straight mute...Talk about Handel's hard work going down the drain!

I'm taking an audition tomorrow, so I thought I'd bump this for the benefit of anyone who missed it last time around. It's great advice and I expect it will benefit me when I walk into the room (I'm bound to be a nervous wreck!)

Thanks for this stuff Manny, it really helps!

Good luck Clarino! Play your butt off and believe that you have every right to have the spot!

I once began the offstage call to the last movement of Lt. Kije with my straight mute in. I guess I just forgot to take it out before I went offstage. Mutes are a pain...

Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
CLARINO!!!

Bravo, man... very happy for you!

You must try to remember something... the principal cello of Halle is newly appointed and an old student of mine from my Youth Symphony! His name is Nick Trygstad and he's a wonderful, dynamic player. If you two can get a pic together and post it you'd make my day.

Again, proud of ya, buddy.

I shall endevour so to do!

Before you all get too excited, I should point out that I did not audition for and win a job with the Hallé, but for a place in Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus who sing with them regularly. I just read my last message and realised how it could be quite misleading! When I do land a job with the Hallé, I'll be sure to make it clear! Sorry for the confusion, it was late at night when I posted, after a healthy evening's celebration!

As a parent of a (HS) freshman trumpeter, I'll pass along your suggestions to my son. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's much appreciated.
