Re: Brass Quartet Peice

Cool!!! Arranging seems to be the place where alot of people start to learn about how to write and indeed studying scores in how they start to learn how to arrange.

I will have to find something to arrange for brass. I enjoy the sound of brass over any other form of quintet/quartet, besides maybe strings sometimes. However, the bulk of brass works seem limited to marches and the such and I just dont enjoy that.

Re: Brass Quartet Peice

could some one here suggest some peices to arrange for brass quartet/quintet that maybe arnt as technically taxing as the brandenburg #6. That song would be cool, but seriously hard to get some one to actually play it. (we are dealing with high school students)

Re: Brass Quartet Peice

Maybe Bach's Toccata and Fugue
or Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man

possibly even a short version of Jupiter or Mars from the Holst's Planets Suite

other possibilities:
Back to the Future, Indiana Jones ...

Re: Brass Quartet Peice

Check out your band library and see if you can find the Hal Leonard score to Chase's Get It On. Send me a copy and I'll arrange it for you! You can take the credit!

Seriously though, you'll want to find a piece that you don't mind hearing time and time again, before and after the arrangement. It is sort of like a sculptor looking for the right piece of marble.

Have fun!
