In this thread I wasn't claiming that the economic downturn was the only reason for the financial plight of the Columbus Symphony.
I was only citing it as one contributing factor.
I could cite several other contributing factors, too.

I cited the source which said that almost 1 in 10 of people in Ohio are now on food stamps because it shows that the economy in Ohio is worse than many people realize.
The economy is so bad there that one of my in-laws has said that he is thinking about leaving Ohio after living there more than 40 years.

In that terrible economy it would be extremely difficult for any orchestra to survive.

Good discussion.

Lots of contributing factors that have already been debated and none of us can control.

Shall we move on before this gets ugly like on the TH?

The Wedding Singer. I can't recommend it.

Edit: Did a little research on ticket prices for ChaseFan:

Columbus Symphony: $18-60

The Wedding Stinker: $22.50-69.50
Those prices really surprise me because they differ from where I live.
Thanks for looking it up.

I used to live in Northern Ohio, and Columbus really is a fairly large city in the the middle of state-wide cow pasture.
Ohio is not the kind of place where people drive around with "Anvil Chorus" blasting away on their car stereos while they cruise

According to my father-in-law who used to work at the TV station, Ohio PBS station WBGU once won an award for a show it produced on how to make quilts.
I am not kidding.

Schwab,

The Wedding singer is coming to St. Louis real soon. Are you playing it?
I'll come down and see it and buy you some beer. I think it is at the FOX.

You just missed it stchasking! We were there last week for 2 weeks, the Fox is a great theater. Too bad we didn't get to meet up, St. Louis is a fun town. I can personally recommend the Flamingo Bowl on Washington Ave!
