Latham's "Suite for Trumpet"

Does anyone here know when and why the "Suite for Trumpet" by William P. Latham was written? I am trying to find information for program notes for a recital. If anyone has this or other information on the piece, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Latham's "Suite for Trumpet"

It was written in 1952 - originally for Trumpet and Orchestra. Piano reduction was done in 1955. I suspect it was originally written as a contest piece, or at least it evolved into one, based on the notations I found.

John Haynie recorded it with the University of Illinois Concert Band with Mark Hindsley conducting, on U of I Concert Band Recordings: #24.
Maybe the librarian at the University of Illinois might have some additional information.

Edward Masters recorded it on "Contest Music for Trumpet and Cornet" - Guide Records (XCTV-67474/XCTV-67475).

Bob Nagel recorded it on" Music for Trumpet and Piano: Laureate Seried - Advanced Contest Solos" - Music Minus One: MMO 8038.

Maybe one of the recordings would have program notes included. Hope you can track something down, anyways...

Best,

Sandy
