First off, relax, this isn't a big deal. Secondly, go to Fall 2004 Newsletter

Click on "Clip 1."

Close your eyes and listen to this clip, then close your eyes and listen to the "wannabe" clip. Different, no? Manny's sound is more resonant and lively. His articulation is way crisper and cleaner than the youtube clip.

Also, wouldn't you think that someone who has the dough to buy a Raja Samadhi would have the chops to back it up? Dave isn't exactly handing those things out to anyone who calls him up.

No, Not at all. Unless you are playing first trumpet in a major symphony orchestra and can get away with playing such a radical instrument. I think most likely scenario is a Doctor or a Lawyer owning one of those Raja instruments.

Dave will hand those out to whoever has the $. Your best bet would to find one come up on Ebay. They loose their value big time and come up every once in a while.

True, but my point is that it's not just some punk with a microphone and a camera. One could at least presume that someone that spends that much money on a trumpet, new or used, is gonna be pretty serious about it.

Re: Manny wanna be?

I see where you are coming from but I disagree with you. Someone who spends that much money on a trumpet is probably a collector or has a really nice day job that doesn't involve trumpet. Just my opinion based on my observations.

Re: Manny wanna be?

it's not a manny splice. This guy is the real deal...there are thousands of players out there who would be able to knock out mahler 8...don't be too surprised that one of them posted a video of himself online...I do have to wonder where he gets the $ to buy a raja though...that's some serious dough.

Re: Manny wanna be?

The fact that this guy can play a lick from Mahler 8 is not what rasied my suspicions. The sound doesn't seem to line up with the video and he is playing several clips that manny played on the Monette site.

Who are you? You say some pretty bold things. Why not be really bold and post your name?

Re: Manny wanna be?

I own a Monette:

I'm not Rich
I'm not a Lawyer
I'm not a Doctor

and I'm not a hack.

My Monette cost a little less than 8K. A new Bach from WWBW is 2329. I sold a few other horns in my collection to buy the Monette. You wouldn't be spreading these things takatatroll if Monette's were 2500. Save up money and buy a Monette... you should be glad you don't play violin or Piano!

I must be insecure because of my Monette. Yeah, that's it. I probably can't play. Actually all of my clips are fakes as well.

My horn will not lose value. Even if it did I don't care. It's the best Bb trumpet I have ever played by far.

This guy is real, can play, and these clips aren't Manny. Just because you've never heard of him doesn't mean he can't play. Last time I was in Brazil on tour I heard 100's of FREAKISH trumpet players. It was really inspiring.

You trolls on TM make we want to give up on these forums completely.

Have a good day!

Re: Manny wanna be?

After seeing both videos I must agree that this guy just has a really bad delay on his clip. It's not Manny by any stretch of the imagination.

Tatakata: When did this thread become a chance to bash Monette trumpets?! Although I don't personally like to play the horns I know many people who love them and sound great on them. You have no right to judge and insult the people who play these instruments.

Trent: You are a fantastic player and a great person. I really love reading your posts. It would be a terrible loss to this site if someone like this drove you off.
