| Pianissimo User | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory this is indeed true. I'm the recent NU grad that won a job this month that you haven't heard about. on December 3rd I took an audition for the US Navy Band in Washington DC and was offered the job. I do indeed have TONS of student loans- most from Northwestern and also a sizable amount from CIM (where I am/was in grad school). The Navy will erase all of it. Combine that with the $10,000 bonus for signing on the dotted line, and it is not hard to see why these military band gigs are so sought after. Unlike the marine band, I will have to do boot camp. I ship out on Jan 12th. its a small price, and I pay it gladly for such a nice job.

![]() | Re: The Northwestern Trumpet Factory There's something else I'd like to bring up with this discussion. I find something intriguing with NU: they have two full-time teachers who work well together. This way there's no power struggle between studios and students have easy access to both teachers... I'm guessing educatedly. Also, how many other high caliber music schools / conservatories here have even one full time teacher. I think not too many. I think the value of full time teachers is illustrated here and also a huge flaw with American conservatory training. At most of the conservatories here, the teachers are still full-time with their respective orchestras. Does anyone else think this could be a main explanation for their success? Etromba, I'd be particularly interested to hear your take being that you went through NU then to CIM. You have a great view of these two sides. Matt |

Even better was when I went through boot I was in the bugle corps for the training center. We did 12 weeks vs 9 weeks normal but much of it was about the shows and less about the boot stuff.
