Also considering doing a piece with my quintet...considering an Ewald, any suggestions?[/quote] Ewald is a good choice. I'm working on the Ewald Quintet No. 3 right now with my quintet. Very challenging to do it right...I love that schmaltzy stuff. Recently did the Holst Second Suite if F transcribed by Jerry Nowak. That was loads of fun. It's a pretty long blow if you do the whole suite but very playable.

![]() | Re: Pakhmutova trumpet concerto If you want substance an Ewald is good. My opinion is, however, that Ewald is fun to play but difficult to listen to. It's too "sweet" aurally for too long. Most audience members don't leave the recital saying, "Man, that Ewald was riveting!" At least in my experience. If you're looking for a great program starter or ender, check out Escape, by Kevin McKee. Our quintet did it and the audience loved it! The trumpet parts are the most challenging, but completely do-able. Good Luck with the recital.

![]() | Re: Pakhmutova trumpet concerto In the fun and exciting category, Kevin McKee's quintets are just that! Both are available through Balquidder Music and you can hear recordings of at least "Escape" on Balquidder's website. I'm not sure if the other one is up yet. Kevin is a close friend and a terrific trumpeter! Enjoy, Mike |
