Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
DG,

The Parsifal excerpt is a very challenging one which tests your ability to take a large enough breath to get you through both phrases

and

your ability to maintain a pure tone throughout, middle and high register.

It is a glorious piece but be forewarned: many players play this and squeeze their way through it. Most unpleasant, that.

Practice the following:

Starting on low C (if you're using a C trumpet) and setting your metronome to 60-80 for each beat play a pianissimo two octave C major scale with a slight crescendo in the middle as you approach the high C and then continue back to your original low C. When that's comfortable, give the excerpt a go.

Phil gives some absolutely wonderful insight as to how to phrase and what
he uses as imagery when playing the piece. I found that most helpful the
last few times I had to play the excerpt. If nothing else, the imagery is very
calming.
