In all seriousness, I have wanted to check it out. I love the concept and just the overall vibe. | |

Try playing the Hindemith on it -- it becomes a whole other piece. And a question -- is the g above the staff a tad bit high?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Silver Monke Bflat Hi Alex! The rotary valved sound is hard to describe to someone that has never played one. The low, middle and high registers have different "sounds". The sound also develops differently when playing a crescendo - holding together better up to the loudest FFFF. The crown on the bell keeps the energy coming out of the front of the horn. It is a different playing experience. It may be interesting to note that there used to be 4 basic types of rotary trumpets: the Cologne (Monke), North German (Thein), Leipzig (Heckel) and Vienna (Lechner) models. They each had a different type of sound. I suspect your horn is a little older. The newer models have a very large bell with a different flair. For info on your horn send an E'mail to or call: Josef Monke Metall-Blasinstrumenten-Bau GmbH Körnerstraße 48-50 50823 Köln Telefon 02 21 - 9 52 46 67 Telefax 02 21 - 9 52 46 66 E-Mail: info@josefmonke.de

![]() | Re: Silver Monke Bflat Hey, that's a beauty. I have an old Heckel, and a Lechner that I'm using tonight on Beethoven 7. The Heckel has a kranz, the Lechner does not. Try it in your orchestra - I think they blend better with the strings, and besides they look cool....Enjoy! Alex, welcome to the Rotary Club!

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Silver Monke Bflat Alex, it looks like a very nice instrument to me...makes me jealous Guys I was wondering....if they have been so good in the seventies, would be no a good idea for an instrument maker to makes copies of them? Leighs is offering some finishes which are supposed to give a horn a "vintage" look....Why not building such horns?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Silver Monke Bflat Nick, there are copies of the older instruments still being built. They do not sell well because another type of sound is preferred today and the level of tolerance in the various brass sections is not that great. A true vintage instrument with a story or fond memory behind it, makes playing it even more special and you MAKE opportunities to use it. A modern copy is an expensive instrument that you probably won't be able to perform much with.
