these historical excursions are all really cool stuff, but is it copyrighted? Are we in a gray (or red) zone of dispersing this stuff? I am all for comprehensive resources, but also respect the artistic rights of the owners/performers. Can you enlighten me?

![]() | Re: Vacchiano, Prager, Smith and Boitach-1947 It is a very gray area. Outside the USA over 50 years and it is in the public domain. In the USA recordings before 1972 are not protected except for the master tape. There is also fair use and education issues This forum is not storing the files. Just passing on links. It is up to you. Nobody seems to want to discuss these great recordings so it may become moot. Abbedd |

With the proper plug in You can also use flac front end or dbpoweramp to convert to wav FLAC is lossless compression For the MAC you will have to ask someone else Unless you have your computer hooked up to your stereo,I suggest burning to CD. Nero can do that without conversion Abbedd |

![]() | Re: Vacchiano, Prager, Smith and Boitach-1947 This recording is readily available from Sony Classical. Dr. B.W. Schleschinger is Bruno Walter (B.W.). Mr. Vacchiano told me a story about this recording session. They did not splice any tape for these takes, just straight shoots of entire movements. They played the first movement and it was going great ... then Mr. V. missed some notes in the final muted passage and they had the do the whole movement over again! What is on the recording is the second time through. My favorite quote from the story is, "If you think that last muted part is hard ... try playing it the SECOND time around with disgruntled viola players looking back at you!" |

It is available on Sony yes. But in Rock and Roll type sound. Psychedelic trumpets with the harmonics boosted so badly that it is hard to believe they are trumpets and the naurual ambience of Carnegie not to be found. Audiophiles love that. They like to justify to their wives that they spent 10K on a set of speakers that cost 100 bucks to make This recording proves one thing at the very least. That firing the trombone and horn sections in 1946 was the right thing to do. Rodzinski picked two horn and bone sections in NY between 1937 and 1946 that had to be replaced. One at NBC and one at the Phil. He fired Bruno Jaenicke as Principal horn in 1943. From 1943-46 they had Rudy Puletz who could not play in tune nor hold a note steady. They got a big break in 1946 when James Chambers became available when Mason Jones came back from the Marine Band They also hired Gordon Pulis as Pricipal bone who was assistant principal bone in Phillly After the first season at NBC, Toscanini was so displeased at the horn section Rodzinski picked that NBC went to Philly and offered three of their horns(The Berv Brothers) five times their salary to come to NBC Abbedd | |
