Why do I always forget this?

Thanks for reminding me just how lucky I am to get paid to play!

Best,

Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
PBT,

I've been doing this for almost thirty years and I love it. I love playing, I love conducting, I love talking to people about music, I love teaching. I love writing on TM, I love reading about the great things musicians have done that have brought entertainment, solace, and joy to those that listen.

But you have to admit, it was a great gig while it lasted, wasn't it?

I can't think of a job I would rather have. To be able to play great music with other people that love it just as much as you, and to get paid for it! Wow.

This is a bit different from you pro musicians. When I was finishing high school I decided I was going to go on and be an engineer. I made a minor change after 1st year going from electrical to mechanical design but that was about it. Upon graduation I spent two or three years in aerospace (designing gas turbines) but tired quickly of the confinement involved in the commercial jet engine world. Then switched to technical marketing of air compressors, specializing in centrifugals. The "go-go sales" world quickly paled on me (although I lasted a bit longer than I had in aerospace).

Went back to school in '85 and picked up a second degree, this time in business management (amazing how restrictive a purely technical education can be) and hooked up with a local food company as a plant/project engineer. I've just finished buying and installing a bulk elevator and a couple computerized control systems last week and this week will immediately start upon another project to install a scale to weigh railroad cars! (talk about variety).

Every day I feel like a big kid being paid good money to play with the world's largest mechanno set. I honestly can't say that work was all that much fun before the current job. Sometimes you just have to keep tryin' to get the recipe just right and I suspect that's true of ANY career.
