![]() | Who are the extra brass players? aida march.mpg Verdi Aida Triumphal March Toscanini NBC Symphony 1949 Studio 8-H Harry Glantz and Frank Falcone, although not shown, are the two trumpet players in the orchestra. Ray Crisara is the third player . But Aida calls for two. Is he one of the on stage trumpet players? BTW , Aida was the first thing Toscanini conducted, professionally. When one of the arias was rerecorded to allow release of this live performance, in 1954, it was the last thing he conducted professionally For the world premiere of Verdi's Otello, Toscanini was the second chair cellist Abbedd |

![]() | Re: Who are the extra brass players? Ahh, the Aida Triumphal March. Probably my favorite piece that I ever performed. It was also my proudest moment. I played trumpet 1 since I was principal trumpet for the symphony orchestra. We also had 3 trumpet players in the section, but with a double on 1st and the third chair on 2nd. That way, if one of the 1st trumpets were to somehow screw-up (thankfully we didn't), then there would be someone to be a sort of "back-up". There's nothing more embarrassing then to falter in the middle of one of the most important solos of Aida so 3 trumpets could be understandable if one of the parts was doubled.
