![]() | Hey, It's Saturday night after the last concert of this run and man, I'm buzzed! I have to wind down with some Ripple cut potato chips, Onion dip, and a kick butt Aussie wine that I picked up for about 20 bucks. It's a Kaessler 2002 Stonehorse if you care. Damned good red, I must say. Yeah, guys... Osmo's the real thing, I gots to say. None of this hand in the face during climactic passages when he conducts Beethoven. He lets the anger, frustration, joy, sadness, and tenderness all come out. There's one moment in particular that is the climactic moment in the slow part of the Finale that's like brilliant sunshine bursting through clouds... its a FF octave G's Bob and I play and you should've seen him. He led up to it turned to us dramatically, closed his eyes, and put his hands out like he was being crucified! We let loose with the biggest friggin' G octave that good taste would allow. I'm tellin' ya... if you live in town and you didn't get to the show, you missed it. It was fun. If you play Beethoven and you get bored doing it, you ain't playin' it right. ML |

![]() | Ripple cut chips, onion dip, and a bottle of 2002 Kaessler.....doesn't get any better than that when it comes to winding down. Thanks for sharing with us.......

For example, I know about 20 out of 2,200 in my school that like jazz. another 30 or so like classical. and there are some other styles, but most of what us young 'uns listen to is just crap. |

![]() | Yeah, I hear you, LP. That's a drag because it's not like you don't have guys like Wynton going out and touching the lives of so many young people to get them interested in jazz. Bugging people for being into classical is just so old. I don't know... I think people like that still equate loving classical or jazz with being elitist and you don't get credit for actually liking a wide variety of music. These are also the same people that will say "Celebrate diversity!". I will say this, however: there are those among us that perpuate this mythology because of a lack of being able to articulate why they love certain types of music without alienating others. There ARE people that act like you have to belong to a certain kind of mentally elevated club in order to enjoy jazz/classical. All that's really required is that someone can actually sit still long enough to get into it. That was my biggest problem: finding someone who would listen without fidgeting. Teenage boys are NOT good at sitting still without a really "good" reason. Ah, just keep tooting away, LP. Someone's listening... ML |

![]() | Most people that are only experts in operating their hi-fi systems are just not used to classical music or jazz. I never heard any complaints from people I took to concerts. For example a friend who definitively wasn't into jazz went to a concert with Arturo Sandoval and he was completely impressed. The same for a lot of people I took to concerts at the Philharmony here in Berlin: No complaints whatsoever. Many belittle the kind of music they don't know about... |

| Forte User | I like your idea of winding down, ML. Ripple chips and dip work for me every time -- only I'd have to swap your wine for pop, I'm afraid. Don't do the alcohol. The problem is I've been winding down a little too much lately -- 250 pounds just doesn't sit well around the gut....
