![]() | Re: Blue Mitchell Geez man, I loved Arturo Sandoval's Clifford Brown tribute album.... what was the name of it? Can't remember, but it was a great album. I loved how he orchestrated over some of Clifford's original solos, but after a while, that became kind of old hat to me. In fact, his playing in general started to annoy me on that album. See, Sandoval's album came first in my life, and then I loved it so much that I looked for Clifford's stuff, and found that Sandoval could not touch Brownie's work. Now, listening to Mitchell starts this whole process over again. This time, however, the trumpet player is truly adding his own essence to the music (see "Smoke gets in your eyes"). Wonderful stuff!!! p.s. Sandoval is a wonderful player and performer. He's just no Clifford, but I still to this day appreciate his tribute. |
