| Pianissimo User | Re: Busking - playing for tips on street etc First all..too echo several others...be absolutely sure that you know what the local ordinances are. Local ordinances that regulate busking can very greatly from one city to the next...even neighboring cities. For instance, I know of one city where you are fine as long as you don't play traffic or pedestrians. The neighboring city requires a permit (for a fee of course) and has very strict requirements regarding hours, where you can stand, etc. etc. I would be surprised if the junior college would let you busk anywhere near the campus. Play your horn ...yes. Play for money...no. I could be wrong though. The junior college where I play in community band would not allow busking, although the encourage any type of art performance or display. Second..I would not count on busking to be your" ticket" out of anywhere. You need to approach this with realistic expectations. You won't get rich busking. You might make some spending money...maybe. One other piece of advice that I commonly see about busking...be careful. Somewhere there is a post regarding some things to do to make yourself a bit more safe. Just remember, you are outside..in public...around people you don't know...with a bunch of cash laying around. BE SAFE. I don't want to sound completely negative though. I have been told that busking can be rewarding in non-financial terms (a couple of people already alluded to that), and I may actually try it this summer in our town. I will be looking forward to hearing how it goes!

![]() ![]() | Re: Busking - playing for tips on street etc Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star isn't going to make you any money. Having read your other posts you have a long way to go. Decent High school students playing in a quartet could make some money. As a beginner, you need more time on the horn.

![]() | Re: Busking - playing for tips on street etc take a play-a-long CD of easy pop tunes...solo trumpet is too demanding to play anything interesting for hours on end but wiith the backing it gives you a few brakes. Busking Christmas carols is great and makes loads (maybe a bit late now |

![]() | Re: Busking - playing for tips on street etc c.nelson - I think that's the guy lol! Nope I know I won't make any money soon playing trumpet..... I'm doing this because of what I'll be able to do in say 5 years. "Performing" right away, well, I count sing with my awful (but at least in friggin' tune) voice and the old simple guitar chords, or I could draw ppl's faces, turns out they eat that kind of thing up lol. I'm very shy about it which is kind of funny because I can draw better than most people, I just keep thinking I'll get someone's nose wrong or something lol. But for "busking" being able to make some money soon, that's the better bet. I'm just learning trumpet because ..... I like it. If I can get good then sure I'll play on the street. It will be very *very* cool. |

![]() | Re: Busking - playing for tips on street etc Pretty sad looking clown, as I remember him, like most tech people, really. Junior colleges are bastions of Fascism, never forget that. The word on busking downtown is, the only time someone got in trouble for it was this one guy who blocked the entrance to the St. Michael Hotel and was obnoxious, otherwise it's ok. Banjo Boy makes a couple'a hundred a day according to Mr. Oxley. This is in warm weather though, up here it seems there's just no work during the 4 cold months, at least if you're 30 miles outside of town like I am. |

Famous violinist, Joshua Bell didn't do to well in New York subway. Check out sawlady's blog. she sums it up pretty well. There is also some footage of Josh being ignored. Is Joshua Bell a good busker? : SawLady’s Blog
