Post Desert Island discs

I'm just sitting down with my new Ipod (which currently has 11547 tunes on it with 16GB free :)).

Are the days of listening to just one disc over and over until you had the solos memorized over?

I thought it would be fun to see what one would listen to if they only had 5 recordings to take the the island.

Here's mine:

1. Kind of Blue (duh!)
2. Mahler 5: Solti/CSO (70's vintage Bud I do believe)
3. John Coltrane: A love Supreme
4. Freddie Hubbard: The Body and The Soul (what got me into playing the trumpet... everytime I hear it it makes me pumped to practice).
5. Charlie Parker with Strings

So, what are your choices?

I have over 170 gigs of music so it wont even fit on an ipod So I have a 2 gig nano that I rotate stuff every week or so.

5 cds on an island? Wow, thats though.

1 - Atlanta Symphony Mahler 2
2 - Essence of Maynard
3 - Renee Fleming (self titled cd)
4 - A Hakan Hardenberger Mixed CD
5 - Michel Camilo - One more once

And some badass headphones!

Re: Desert Island discs

Okay, for right now:

Sacred Polyphony
Scotland the Brave (it's a fluke; the pipes would drive me over the edge I know)
Something British Brass Band'ish
Something Baroque'ish
Something Jussi Bjorling'ish

I know.... boiling down to 5 is a very hard thing to do. I have about 300 GB of music on 3 drives... It's funny to think how long it would take to actually listen to it all, and even if I would want to. I might pass on the Cyndi Lauper ;)

300 gigs? wow. Most of mine is 128 kbps, just starting ripping at 320 so the size is growing pretty rapidly. I probably need a new external HD soon. iTunes says I have like 130 days of music! hahah
