As for using jazz as a cover, what do you call a band that had a roster that listed (by all means not close to complete) such amazing Jazz improvisers as:

Conte Candoli
Maynard
Tim Hagans
Lee Knoitz
Frank Rosolino
Art Pepper,
Mel Lewis
Sam Noto
Marvin Stamm
Lucky Thompson

To the best of my knowledge all of the above musician consider themselves jazz musicians…And if you ever get to meet and hang or play with Sammy Noto, I dare you to tell him he is not a jazz musician

There were many musicians of note who played with him. But they sounded like crap when they did. I have listened to more Kenton than I have cared to in search of understanding what it is, and to me there is still no there there, to quote Ms. Stein. If it is my loss I happily accept it, I don't have time to listen to such swill when there is Ellington I haven't heard. Among many others. Give me Woody, give me Thad, Basie, Lunceford, Gerald Wilson, but spare my poor ears with Kenton.

Hey guys (Chuck and Michael)

I respect your opinion. When ever I strongly dislike an artist or type of music I will try and listen to more of it to prove myself wrong. And sometimes I am very wrong...

That said each of has our own personal ascetic values. That is the great part of listening to music. Each person reacts differently to it. I am glad the Kenton band makes you feel something even if it is dislike…It’s when the music makes us feel nothing that we should become worried.

I hope you keep searching and in your search I hope you find what you are not looking for. For that is truly the best discovery of them all.

Sincerely,
PT
