Hi fellow TJB fans,

Well, I just did a little discography research and discovered that I have 11 of the first 13 TJB albums. Not bad for five or six weeks of searching, heh? The two that I am missing are "Volume 2" and "Herb Alpert's Ninth".

So...if anybody has extras/duplicates of those two, shoot me a private message and maybe we can "work a deal".

You know, if you wanna talk pathetic, I'm a college freshman, on a Friday afternoon, reading this forum, about TJB, listening to Doc Severinsen play Napoli, instead of out with friends or movies or some junk...I think I might win the truly pathetic contest.

I have TJB's Classics Volume 1 that has a lot of the stuff that ya'll have been talking about (email me if you want the full list, it's got 25).

I really miss TJB, grew up in the wrong era if you ask me (I personally feel that Korn should be drug out into the streets and beaten with saxophones if that tells you anything). I love TJB, I've had this disc since I was a kid. My personal fav has to be either Tijuana Taxi or Zorba the Greek. Yup, I'm sad...

Don't be sad. You listen to real music. Something with an actual melody that can be followed along with. Don't the "Korn" followers have a visible "L" on their foreheads?

Didn't I just read a government study that concluded non-melodious music causes cancer? :wink:

hello everone. I have been looking at this site for several weeks now but when I saw some discussion on the TJB I knew I had to register. Listening to Herb Alpert and the TJB revived my interest in playing the trumpet when I was a kid and it still makes me very happy when I listen to it. I have all the albums on vinyl and all the ones issued on CD and the ones I enjoy that don't get talked about as much are SRO (especially mexican road race) and the summertime album. I too have heard the talk about the reissuing the old TJB on CD's and I hope that it does happen soon. Just this last month I went on a thriftshop crusade for TJB vinyl and got 7 of them for 10 or 11 bucks, a couple of them look absolutely mint. I think the first 10 are fairly easy to find but warm, the brass are coming, summertime, and the christmas album can be tough to locate( incidently the "crusade" was for my brother who is rekindling his interest in his trumpet and I thought a little Herb Alpert would help)

It sure can't hurt, Nacog. Herb Alpert may not have had the most "avant garde" playing or music (although it has somehow stood the test of time!) I wish I had a dime for every current trumpet player who got their ears attuned to the instrument as kids listening to his brass section floating along on "A Taste of Honey"!

I think that you could probably find volume 2 without too much problem by just visting some goodwills or other thrift shops. I gathered the seven albums in the previous post on maybe 3 or 4 visits to different stores. Even then I usually had a pick of several of the same album so I could get a very nice copy ( I picked up a going places that looked new inside and out). If you still can't find one let me know and I'll see what I can do.
one more note, at the thrift shops the records can be had for .50 to $2.00 but there is a used record store here in Portland (Oregon) where you could round out a Tijuana brass collection (first 10 albums anyway) in just one visit but prices are a little steeper - $3.00. Herb Alpert sold a lot of albums so they are out there.

Herb Alpert (and the TJB) is who got me into playing trumpet! It's all HIS fault! :)

Was it Miles who said that you only need to hear a couple of notes and you can immediately tell you're listenting to the TJB? He created a SOUND all his own and was as big as the Beatles for a brief moment.

Oh to have .0001 % of his success as a trumpeter!

Yes, I have found a lot of albums in thrift stores (Goodwill and St. Vincent dePaul). I have probably paid a total of $20 for these albums. In about six weeks time I found (or was given):

Herb and Hugh - Main Event

I have duplicates of The Lonely Bull, South of the Border, Going Places, SRO, Sounds Like..., and The Beat of the Brass. Some of my duplicates have a few skips, but all of the albums in my main list (above) play very well.

I am really only missing Volume Two and Herb Alpert's Ninth (from the early years). I would "go nuts" if I found Al Hirt's "Green Hornet" for less than full ebay price. So, I will keep searching...finding them is half the fun.

By the way...do you use record album (outer) sleeve covers. I ordered 100 plastic inner sleeves from Sleeve City. They put 200 outer sleeves in with my order. I contacted them and they didn't want them back (too much hassle and cost for reverse shipping). So...if anybody had Volume Two and/or Herb Alpert's Ninth and/or Al Hirt's Green Hornet...well...I have 200 brand new clear plastic outer record sleeves. As Monty would say...let's make a deal.
