| Titans another recording The Titans piece was composed by Shorty Rogers. The last movement is what features what I would call the clarino style trumpet playing. The story I've heard was the Shorty wrote it with Maynard in mind and that he was the only one to be able to play it. After the New York recording Chicago Symphony also did a recording of it and there was only a short list of people considered to play the part which included Cat Anderson, but Bud Brisbois was chosen. The recording I have of it is a live version and not very good. Bud does an incredible job but there are a lot of chipped notes and intonation problems. For more info I would try and contact Kevin Seeley. I got the recording from him on the Tribute Cd he did of Bud. Chops1 |
