bandman will become famous soon enough
Re: Maynard...give It One

I loved it -- but it also made me sad -- I still love Maynard! THe thought that he is gone is still unreal to me.

And if I may add -- What a band!

Re: Maynard...give It One

Nice Chuck.....

As soon as Maynard appears in the video I knew it was from the 70's. Ahhh the leisure suit...!

Great clip; my ears are bleeding and I'm awake....

Thanks...

Re: Maynard...give It One

Saw this intimation of the band I think in Tulsa, Oklahoma 1975, if memory serves, and I still think it ranks as one of my all time top 10 earth shaking gigs.

Mark Colby is the other sax player on alto, premature bald. He let out a rippin roaring Soprano Sax solo Ill never forget. Yes thats Ron Tooley up there in the trmpt section stage left, saw him this September in S. Korea with Maceo Parker.

Same 75 tour as when they had the sitar player come out. WOW, was that a tune with Maynard at the top of his game. God do I remember that ultra he hit, it went right between my eye sockets.

Ahhhh, great souvenirs.

Re: Maynard...give It One

Just caught the new "Rocky Balboa" movie. Sounded like they used the original soundtrack but edited in some of the Maynard licks from his version. Not sure if it was MF actually playing but those were his licks.

I never realised he played that far off center.

Re: Maynard...give It One

I had the pleasure of seeing this version of the band live a couple of times. Joe Mosello blew everyone away with his technical wizardry when the trumpets all came out front and took turns on extended cadenzas for Conquistador. I'll never forget that show and that band!

Russell

Yes that was one hell of a line up and band with those great roaring charts. Maynard at a prime period, a period in time in the 70's when music was bubbling away from all angles. I know what you mean, so unforgetable as if it was yesterday, peak existential moments supreme.
