| Hi there, Here's my take on it. Solo: Wynton Marsalis "Where or When" from Popular Songs Group: "A Taste of Honey" Herb Alpert Big Band: "Cherokee" GRP All-Star Big Band Live particularly Byron Stripling's solo. That last one makes me want to just give up playing (not really!!!) Regards Trevor |

| Fortissimo User | Oh man, I'm going to have to sit down in front of my CD cabinets and really take a look through them! I can say that Stephan Grapelli sharing the microphone with Yehudi Menuhin in "Fascinating Rhythm" ALWAYS gets me reved up. It's like the string version of "Wynton Marsallis meets Maurice Andre and play Cole Porter" if you know what I mean. The two of them are GIANTS in their own genres and to hear them come together is magic. Doesn't hurt that they're doing Gershwin as well. Anything by Canadian Brass. but especially their "Red Hot Jazz, the Dixieland Album". More later. |

| Doc He's a Doctor that plays the trumpet! Larry, another CD I listen to, "a lot", becuase I love the playing. The band swinings it's ass off ... A Natalie Cole CD titled, "Take A Look". What bugs me a little though, is there is no mention of the trpts, t-bones or sax's. Every tune has the bass, drums, piano , guitar listed however ... what gives with that???? Can you try to pull your "LA notes" and hip me to who's playing lead trpt on that CD. Sure sounds like Chuck (Findley) to me, although I know that Dave Trigg is her lead trpt player on tours. |

| Hi MPM, I got both those guys on the " speed dial " and I'll give them a call. Dave Trigg moved back to New York about 9 months ago. He was out here in LA , but missed the " Big Apple " I give him a call first and get back to you. Larry |

| "TAKE A LOOK" CD Larry, Thanks for your detective work! To make a comment about lead trpt sounds, I really dig the sound & 'feel' of the lead trumpet player on "that" cd! Anyway thanks for making the call(s). I'll look forward to who ever that is getting credit for great trumpet playing!!! |

| MPM and all Here's the " 411 " on the Natalie Cole CD " Take a Look " Dave Trigg did play lead trumpet on the CD and the sax solos were by Pete Christlieb and David " Fathead " Newman. It was recorded in Dec. 1992 and released in the summer of 1993. Dave was the musicians contractor on the date so he's going to look up the paper work if he still has it and see who else was in the section and give me a buzz back. Dave says Chuck could have been on the session also, probably was. That's 2 Calicchio guys for the price of one. No wonder it's a great album. Larry |

| DAVE TRIGG Larry ... ok cool! But could have sworn by listening that Chuck was playing lead ... my bad! But please do post the other players when he calls you back. Guess I have another 'favorite lead trumpet player' now. You know I've heard very good things about Triggs trumpet playing, and now I know why. I only saw him play live once ... years ago when he was on Maynards band. A very fine trumpet player! So he plays a Calicchio what model, finish etc? And what mpc? Last I saw / heard he was tooting a Yamaha? Was he playing Yamaha or his Calicchio on the Natalie Cole CD ... or would he recal? I recently bought a Natalie Cole DVD ... "Ask A Woman Who Knows", with Diana Krall as her guest. Diana has her own guys with her. This is a BBC effort and very well done. What does Dave (Calicchio guy) know about this? I'm watching it as I type and it "doesn't" appear that Dave is in the trumpet section. Just started it so if there are credits, (musicians) at the end I'll post them. Larry, you've played her show out in LA haven't you? Michael |

| Well Natalie & Diana both have their bass, druns, piano, and guitar players listed on the credits. The rest, strings, trumpets, t-bones, saxes, french horns ... they are "The Radio Big Band". |

| Fortissimo User | I’ve just been sitting here listening to Arturo Sandoval’s “Trumpet Evolution”. Simply amazing stuff. You might not enjoy ALL of the tracks but some of them are simply “to die for”. My favorites are “At the Jazz Band Ball”…Biederbecke (you have to hear that bari sax thumping away); “La Virgen de la Macarena”….Mendez (ok..this one probably wasn’t much of a stretch for Arturo…it’s still great); “Concerto for Cootie”; “Manteca”, Gillespie; “TeePee Time”, Clark Terry; “Round Midnight”, Davis (I would have called this one “Three AM Blues”); “Joy Spring”, Clifford Brown; “Later”, Marsallis. Heck, it would be easier to list the tracks I didn’t like! If I had to do the “desert island” routine I think this is the CD I’d take because it represents so many different artistic styles, and done by a master at his trade. Highly recommended as “#1 Listening” for someone who wants to build a jazz trumpet collection and hasn’t decided which genre or artist they want yet. There are some awfully good sidemen on this CD as well. |
