Having just got back to civilization after 2 weeks, I just read this sad news.

Nick, Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience with us. Maynard had so much impact on us as trumpet players. I don't think there is one among us who can't trace his influence.

I was fortunate enough to have seen him in concert on 2 occasions, the last was this past spring with his small group. What an amazing evening that was. Maynard was larger than life to me still. The comraderie on the stand was contagious, and he looked like he still was absolutely in love with playing. How did he sound? Fantastic.

No apology needed

I, too, was deepy disturbed when I heard of Maynard passing, and I never toured with him, though I did perform with some guys from his band back in 1989.

I'm a homicide detective, and I was at work when I found out. Good thing I was working nights, cause I had tears streaming down my face as I read the articles and online postings.

Maynard's music has been important to me since I first heard County Road over twenty-five years ago. Jazz, and Maynard in particular, has always been able to help me de stress after a bad day at work...and with homicides, I can have some pretty bad, gory days.

Take care and God Bless.
