Re: Swing Era or Modern Era?

What Jaco Pastorius did for modern big bands, was ground shakin; stuff.
What a mix!

Re: Swing Era or Modern Era?

I have to say:

Harry James
Benny Goodman

These 2 blew my mind away with their swing. I've heard nothing of such music in my life and I absolutely loved it first touch. They are amazing musicians that played wonderful music.

However, Maynard and his band will be my #1 forever, nothing can top them.

Re: Swing Era or Modern Era?

I have to agree, why not both? The Big Band Era was my parents generation, so my Dad turned me on to Glenn Miller and Harry James, and the Dorseys. As I grew up I found Maynard. Then I found Basie, Ellington and Thad and that generation. I just love Big Band. All kinds, almost anyway. It's fun to listen to and a lot of fun to play.
Happy Father's Day Dad!! Wish you were here.
