![]() | Trumpet Solo on "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" Hey, a question for you guys & gals that play in horn bands. Is the trumpet solo in Chicago's "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" one of those solos that is expected to be played exactly the same as on the record, or do you improvise a new solo when you play that song? Thanks. Tom |

| New Friend | Re: Trumpet Solo on "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" Hi Tomba51 You should definitely memorize or at least get the core of this solo, as it was played by Lee Loughnane/Chicago. It is a "signature" solo in rock just as the "In the Mood" trumpet solo's would be on the classic Miller arrangements. Same goes for Solaffs work in BS T, some Tower of Power etc. This particular solo is right on top of the tune and is a recognizable "set-up" to bring in the rest of the piece.Lee was a founding member of the group, they have a great Bone on top (if that's good;) arranging style. Great stuff---it's not a long or demanding solo either, EZ to pick up. There is "noodle room" but I wouldn't just bop away unless your bands arrangement is way different. Best regards, Jason Parra
