The Ultimate Blues Workout--book & CD

Introducing the latest release through Boptism Music Publishing, The Ultimate Blues Workout by Rich Willey (that's me).

This is a volume of 44 bebop/jazz blues permutations that will keep you busy for a long time. And if you're thinking to yourself, "Hey, it's just a bunch of simple blues heads, how hard can they really be?" don't be fooled. There are major blues in all 12 keys, minor blues in all 12 keys, triple meter blues in all 12 keys, and 8 "extra" blues to keep you learning and growing.

The data CD contains play-along tracks to make nine play-along CDs so you have a choice of shedding (1) with melody instrument + 8 choruses per blues for blowing at two tempos, (2) with no melody instrument + 8 choruses per blues for blowing at two tempos, (3) MIDI files for you to use with Band-In-A-Box or other sequencing program for unlimited tempo, key, and length-of-time-for-blowing possibilities.

Most jazz musicians agree that if you want to play jazz, you need to know how to play the blues. This workout is your "Blues Boot Camp" to help your improvisation skills evolve with a solid background in the blues.

Introductory price now at Boptism Music Publishing along with samples for you to look at and listen to (the Table of Contents is also down there at the bottom of the page). There's something there for all levels of improvising jazz musicians.

The various transpositions are all there on each 2-page spread, so you and your alto sax playing friends or your guitar playing friends or (if you're willing to admit it) your trombone playing friends can read right along with you.

There's not a single blues in there that's a "throw-away" tune, either. They've all got some meat for you to sink your teeth into. Even the best players will find plenty to challenge their abilities in this extensive workout.

Happy woodshedding!
