| Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately? I just recently got a copy of Roxio Media Creator. I have started converting all my old LPs and tapes to digital. Man that makes me feel old!! Anyway, I just started relistening to a lot of Freddie Hubbard: Hub-Tones As a side man on Herbie Hancock's Takin' Off and Maiden Voyage As side man on Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil And last, but definitely not least - Freddie and Woody Shaw on Double Take -I mentioned this in an earlier post in this thread. I've been dying to get this on CD, but I think it's out of print. This is one of the main reasons I got the Roxio program. Listening to this again is like meeting up again with an old good friend. WHY IS THIS OUT OF PRINT? To me it should be a standard for everyone that loves jazz trumpet. **I did just look for it and found it on Amazon used for $34.34 Sorry for the rant! Now, all these albums and the rest of my trumpet jazz collection are on 1 HiMD disc sitting in my Sony HiMD player keeping me happy and jazzy |

I think with the Roxio software, you may not need it (may be wrong) because they show a schematic of how to hook up your equipment and one of the diagrams has you connecting your turntable directly to the computer with an adapter that converts the RCA plug to a 1/8" stereo plug. If this is true, I'm guessing the software converts the RIAA equalization to Hi-Fi. I'll check this again to make sure and update this post. I would think you would still need to ground the turntable. ETA: I was wrong above. In the schematic, it is referencing a turntable that has a built in pre-amp. So, in order to use Roxio to convert your LPs, you will either need to run it through a receiver with a phono hook-up, or run it through a pre-amp like the Rolls VP29, unless your turntable has a built in pre-amp. ![]() | Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately? I use a software package called "Steinberg Clean". It comes with a turntable to computer preamp. Should I ask if anyone has a preference for turntables? I need to buy one. One more item. I read in a magazine (on an airplane) about a turntable to CD hardware package that does it all. You put on the record, press record and the CD recorder takes care of the rest. |

| Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately? I am listening to Matt Schulman’s "So It Goes." He is a great player and a nice guy. I met him after a big band gig in NYC. Matt is an expert on playing multiphonics. His music is innovative and fresh. Good technique and vocals. Janell |

| New Friend | Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately? I was searching through my stack of jazz CDs when i popped in some sonny rollins. He makes the most difficult pieces flow so easily. i have been trying to incorporate bits and pieces of his style into mine. Also, Wynton Marsalis (whom i have met) is an extraordinary player and i love listening to him always. |

| New Friend | Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately? I saw Wynton Marsalis last night in Morgantown, West Virginia. Killin' band. My trumpet teacher hooked me up and got me backstage and I got to meet him. What a humble guy... Other than that, a LOT of Clifford Brown, Miles, Kenny Dorham, some Donald Byrd, etc. |
