Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately?

Lately I have been listening to the following:

Alex Sipiagin - Prints, Alex trp/flg, Chris Potters saxes, David Kikoski piano, Scott Colley bass, Antonio Sanchez drums

Wow... Buy this album. He is a beautiful player.

Enrico Pieranunzi - Fellini jazz, Kenny Wheeler trp, Chris Potter tenor, Charlie Haden bass, Paul Motian drums , and Enrico Pieranunzi piano

I just bought these two albums in Copenhagen last week, but should be fairly easy to fine in NY or online.

Maria Schneider - Sky Blue - Another beautiful album from my favorite big band in NYC.

Fred Anderson & Hamid Drake - From the River to the Ocean - Some great jazz musicians from Chicago. My girlfriend bought me this album for my birthday.

A lot of Marcus Roberts. He's not trumpet, but I dig his poly-rhythmic stuff.

I’ve been listening to Ingrid, too. If you can hear her perform live then that is better. There is nothing like it in the world! Here is my listening list.

Ingrid Jensen Here on Earth
Ingrid Jensen Higher Grounds
Ingrid Jensen At Sea
Ingrid Jensen Nordic Connect

Lately, Lots of Freddie, Wynton, Oscar peterson, Clark terry,Brownie, Dizzy, Chet and Clora Bryant.
If you haven't got the albums Freddie recorded with Woody Shaw,
I advise you to get them, I have "The Eternal Triangle" and it's some of the best trumpet playing you'll ever hear.

Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately?

Man I wish I could see live shows like you guys are talking about! I've never really heard an extremely good trumpet player in person, but I enjoy Botti's CDs. I listen to Gomalan Brass and James Morrison now, but I'm just getting out of a big band craze. I also like the Big Phat Band and yes, Wayne Bergeron. Winton Marsalis is great in every recording. I listen around.

Re: Whatcha been lis'nin to lately?

Santy Clause brought me some of the Jazz Icons DVDs: Wes Montogomery (dynamite!), Ellington 1958 with Cat, Clark, Nance and Shorty Baker (now THERE'S an unsung hero) Coltrane from 1961, 1960 and 1965 (scary, frightening, unreal) and Mingus (really scary too, Dolphy, Byard, and little Johnny Coles). I must have been good this year, 'cause these were awesome.
