![]() | Bach 7 alternative? I play Bach 7-no letter and Bach 7E mouthpieces which are doing me well. I was grateful when a poster here in Trumpet Master steered me to a Weril W46 which has diameter and rim exactly like the Bach 7E, but with shallower cup and tighter backbore. I use it a lot. Is there any other company which makes other mouthpieces based on the Bach 7 diameter and rim? I would like to experiment with some different cup shapes and cup depths. I would especially be interested in something like Bach 7C that has a convex cup rather than a concave cup, like the convex cups that Jet-Tone used to make; there is steep undercut from rim into cup just like in the first part of an ordinary Bach 7C cup, then the cup would suddenly change to a convex curve for the rest of the way to the throat. Or a Bach 7C with a true "V" cup. Or a Bach 7C with a "double cup". Or an extremely deep Bach 7 that would sound "flugelish". Or any other interesting cup shapes that someone might sell. I think Curry bases his mouthpieces on the old "Mount Vernon" Bach mouthpieces, which are totally different sizes from the modern Bach mouthpieces that I use and want to keep. I have tried Bach mouthpieces from the late 1960's, mid 1970's, in addition to the new 2008 versions, and all are close enough to each other that they are acceptable versions of the Bach 7 diameter and rim. So can anyone steer me to some company that makes what I am looking for? P.S. - Regarding the 1960's mouthpieces that I have, are they "New York" Bach mouthpieces? When were "New York" Bach mouthpieces made? Kanstul Comparator shows that they are very similar to modern Bach mouthpieces. On the other hand, when were the dramatically-different "Mount Vernon" Bach mouthpieces made? - Morris |
