| Fortissimo User | Re: Best and Cheapest Case Depending on how the money flow is when I get back from summer break, I will be considering the Marcus Bonna Triple or the Pro-Tec ProPac Triple with wheel and modular interior. I have also toyed with maybe getting the MB 4+Laptop. I am betting that I would be able to carry my books and music and the 2 horns that I will have, which would be nice so i wouldnt have to tote trumpets and backpack. (Hence the propac with wheels and not pack straps)

![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case I agree that Protec cases are very nice. The trumpet/flugel double case is a great value, (relatively) lightweight and well made. For just a simple single trumpet case though-- something lightweight, easy to carry and a hard case to offer good protection, I'm a big fan of this little cheapie made by Gator. Get the Vintage model (unfortunately no pic. of the much nicer looking Vintage version on the link). It has a very classy brown leather-ish look (fake), is light, doesn't take up much room and is easy to carry and protects the trumpet well and looks good doing it. ![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case Well, I'm currently in my sophomore year of high school, but I go on international festivals for jazz and concert band (at least two times a year). I ALWAYS bring my trumpet as a carry-on. I noticed from other reviews that Protec cases aren't the highest quality, but they also create the "MAX trumpet case." What's the difference between them? Anyways, the vintage Gator case looks like a good alternative. Dunno if I'm gonna get a used Calicchio (if the owner is willing to ship internationally) or just a new Stomvi USA which already comes with the case. Probably gonna get the Stomvi though. It's seems to be the best match for me.

Well, remember what you originally ask for is the "Best, cheapest case." If you want the "best" and are willing to spend a lot more money that's a whole new ballgame. I've had a couple of Walt Johnsons and they are outstanding-- I'd even check my horn on airplane baggage in one of those, but they are about four times more money than a Protec (which are probably made in China, the quality seems fine to me) or Gator, etc. There are other high end cases, Wiseman, etc. that I'm sure are great but again, do you want cheap or do you want "the best?" Personally, for the money I'm fine with the lower end Protecs, Gators, etc. which to me are the best (and cheap!) cases. They seem to protect the horn just fine. Just my opinion, but I think the soft gig back style cases (Reunion Blues) are just plain stupid-- but they do look cool.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case I was able to buy an old demo Anvil case from my music store for $75. I added some foam, and was able to check two horns as plain old baggage on several international flights. The only damage occured when Homeland Security opened the case to check it out, and put one of the trumpets in backwards. I now include packing instructions.

![]() ![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case I've had really good luck with ProTec cases. I still have a ProTec double that has held up really well. I got it in high school, probably about 10 years ago. They're nothing fancy, but they do the job. I don't use them as much any more because three of my instruments that I use regularly are oddly shaped and don't fit well (a custom D that is VERY long and a Monette Bb and C that have large bells). -Jimi

![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case I just finished putting 11 Torpedo Bag Factory 2nds together last night. They're $109 on Torpedo Bags, and are very well sewn with some non-quality related glitches (thus, they are 2nds). 2 of them sold today. Basic problem is the music pouch is "baggy" and the mute bag can only attach on one side (2 of 4 clips) due to some missed measurements. The mute bag can be adapted fairly easily and cheaply for maybe $10 by a seamstress or even by hand. You get the best case (I'm biased--duh) for not much bread. People who have gotten these are digging them, especially college kids. American parts and assembly on these, fabric parts sewn overseas. It's also on of the few products I actually have in stock right now. Plenty of the new Single Outlaws, a few brown Loredos, and most Mouthpiece Holsters are in stock, and the Classics are supposed to have been here, but I'm still waiting...waiting...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. |

![]() | Re: Best and Cheapest Case In my own humble opinion if I was to carry only one horn and gear it would either be the Torpedo or a pro-tech extreme. You can't get any more protection than a Torpedo and the extreme is very protective it's self. Dave
