I've done a bit more research and the aerosol lanolin product I know is manufactured in Australia by Lanotec in Queensland as Heavy Duty Lanolin Liquid Aerosol. One of the trade names here is something like Lanocote. The Material Safety Data Sheet shows this product as having about 30% naptha as the solvent and other hydrocarbons for a propellant - so not to be used indoors or for those of you who choose to filter your incoming air through a cigarette and your exhaled air through a trumpet. (Thinks, that's a bit politically incorrect - perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned smoking.)
The research continues - however, I have in my hand a spray can of "Lanolene" or "The Original Lanolene Organic Coating". This an 18.5 fluid/oz or 400gm Net container of liquified Lanolin. The directions say "Remove surface rust and sparingly apply Lanolene spray to a clean, dry and preferably warm surface, spread evenly with a clean, dry cloth. ..... Lanolene has the ability to permeate into the structure of most materials including metals, increasing the service life of the coating."

This stuff is 100% Technical Grade Lanolin (non toxic) with a hydrocarbon propellant.

I have applied this to the tuning slides of my old B&H Regent today and gone a-marchin' - works very well indeed, not sticky gooey, but a nice light spray that allows the slide to work well without all the hassle of cleaning up EVERYTHING after the application. Rather like cooking spray, if you like.

I will try for a while and keep you posted.

Oh - stuff is available from the local Marine Centre (Center) and cost AUD$20.50.
