Thanks for the input, rowuk. That's good to know. Did you find this out from first hand experience?

Re: Flight Cases (Pelican)

I can honestly say mine has been tested pretty heavily over the past year and passed with flying colors. Leigh actually used my case one time to take some new horns to Norway and gave it his stamp of approval as well. It carries four trumpets plus two mouthpiece pouches and some valve oil and a mute. My guts are made from an old Wolfpak quad and seems to do a very good job keeping things secure. The foam is fine too. Now that I have gotten used to it, it is nice not having to schelp my case around the airport.

Yes. Walking on the plane with just a magazine is a great feeling. (That is if you don't have any connecting flights!)

Remove the water and you have a much harder job with the inside of your horn. The horn also blows more freely when it is moist inside!
Adding to this......I actually put a few drops of oil down my leadpipe when I oil my valves and blow a few gusts through the horn to keep things "moving" inside. It keeps the lead pipe/horn coated and particles from sticking.

I agree TK! You have to admit to feeling occasional spikes of panic thinking you left something behind when this liberation was first discovered though. I know I did at the beginning! I kept feeling like I had forgotten something.

Re: Flight Cases (Pelican)

I like a small backpack that can be rolled up and stowed inside a suitcase when it isn't required: a great way to handle the magazine, Clive Cussler (or Isaac Asimov... always good for rereading) novel, mp3 player and camera plus a light, windproof jacket and a chocolate bar (Lindt, of course). Much handier than having to stuff the airline ticket (which makes a good bookmark) in a pants pocket as well. And if you're worried about them losing the luggage?... spare set of "necessities" and a plastic baggie with toothbrush and "stuff". Light weight, fits overhead or underseat, leaves both hands free and doesn't make you look like a "beast of burden".

Re: Flight Cases (Pelican)

Just one more, Slixk...

I love the Pelican cases and I have had to trust them with my precious instruments as well. I think those things could survive a bomb blast, they're so well made. The instruments fit in as firmly as you design the inside. I recommend them when you have a lot of horns to bring.

Re: Flight Cases (Pelican)

I have two large Pelican cases that I purchased back in 1993 - the only down side to those cases (maybe this is different on the new ones) is that the clasps are plastic. These clasps have worn down over the years and will sometimes open with a good bump - not ideal for travel. I've been using my Walt Johnson single for quite some time now because of this problem. The Pelican cases are exeptionally well built, don't get me wrong. It's just that they wear out like everything else. FYI

cool.

Hey Manny, I read about the guy in your signature in the papers, here in Singapore. Liviu Librescu, I think he was really brave!

Cheers!
