I agree with Dave.

I ordered a set of heavy caps for my Lawler. The more acclimated I become to this horn, the more apparent the differences are between the heavy and normal caps.

It's really night and day. When I have all 3 heavies, the horn slots very tight and secure. There is hardly any play or bend with the notes at all. It also slots securely all the way up to G/A above high C. I like this for legit playing.

Put the normal caps on, and this puts the horn in turbo mode. The horn becomes even easier to play, and the slots are very loose. Endurance is really good with this setup. I like this gear for lead/jazz combo playing.

Chief, have you tried just one heavy on the third valve casing? That's my preferred setup on my Concept TT for all playing.

Dave

I have the heavy valve caps for my Bach Strad. 37 and I dig them. I did notice my intonation was improved, and I was able to focus my tone more, but I don't know if that is a mental thing or not.

I'm using Curry caps on my Bb, C, and cornet. Each one is on the third cap only. The Bb has the rubber ring over the valve casing, the C has it inside the cap, and the cornet is screwed on like a normal cap.

Now that you're accustomed to them, take them off. For me the difference is very clear and easy. If you've had them for a while and can't notice anything when you take them off, then they're likely doing you no good.
