![]() | Re: Megatone mouthpieces-Who plays them? Hi, I own a couple of Bach mouthpieces that I like, but I do not own Megatone Bachs. I've have only heard positive comments from those using Megatone Bach, but I have no personal experience using them. I'll bow out of this discussion because I have not used the Megatone mouthpieces. I meant no harm even though my input was not helpful or relevant. Best wishes! Lloyd |

![]() | Re: Megatone mouthpieces-Who plays them? Back to the Martin Committee-- I know it was used by other various artists of note, they were fairly cheap at the time for one thing, (among other models shown in the list below) but what I'm saying is that, by far... the mystique of the Committee is owed most exclusively to to Miles Legacy. To say otherwise is silly. Mark Isham and Wallace Roney, for example have publicly stated that the reason they play Committees is because of Miles. I'm not saying this is a bad thing and I'm not saying they are bad horns, I'm as big of Miles fan as you'll ever find (don't play a Committee though, but I did play a Marcinkiewicz Coppola for a while which is a copy of the large #3 Martin Committee-- too open for me). Just for fun here's a list of the horns many famous trumpet players used: Player/horn combinations

![]() ![]() | Re: Megatone mouthpieces-Who plays them? Here is a link to the Mazzak Machining Center used to make mouthpieces. This machine was featured in David Monette's presentation at trumpet Guild. Most manufacturers are using this technology. They have to or they won't survive. Mazzak is fairly easy to program. Bach probably has one or something like it. CNC has been around a long time. It really took hold with the advent of the personal computer. The cool part about this machining center is that the stock rotates at high speed while a ball nose cutter the size of dental tools also rotates on the milling head. The chips really fly and the cutting is smooth as a babies bottom. Kanstul Mouthpiece Manufacturing

If you aren't using Megatone mouthpieces, your opinion was not solicited! We can't stop you, but you do make this thread more difficult to read. If you have a problem, start your own thread! Thanks Rowuk!!! This thread seems to have been hijacked. I just want to know who uses Megatones and why? I know what Miles played. If there is anyone out there who plays a Megatone, please feel free to contribute. |

![]() | Re: Megatone mouthpieces-Who plays them? Hi Ozboy, I bought into the hype and purchased a used 3C MegaTone, which I used for 2 months. I tried to like it, and I did like the blow from the 26 throat, but it was just too much work when I needed to project over the band (swing band). It did make blending into the section really easy, so for a 3rd or 4th trumpet section player, it could really work. For the lead or jazz chair, it wasn't efficient enough (sound out versus energy in) when I needed to rise out of the section for a lead line or a solo. I went the GR route and never looked back. If you look at a GR blank, it "eyeballs" to be something between a standard Bach and a MegaTone. I really should weight a standard Bach, my GR, and a MegaTone. I'll bet that the GR ends up right in the middle, weightwise.

Ozboy, I did a search here on "megatone" and the following members claim to play or have played them: BRM2 Bach 1 1/4C Man SyL JonathanShaw TheCanadianScreamer oldyoung_guy mchs3d loweredsixth JazzBird cornetguy pwillini and Tony Kadlek posted: "I know that Randy Brecker plays a Bach 3C megatone" I haven't seen Randy here, but Bach may have some marketing testimony on their site! You may want to pm them directly with your questions if getting a proper response here continues to prove difficult. I don't know why some feel obligated to save the world (or somebody elses chops!). Your question was actually very simple!

Huh? If you're having difficulty reading maybe you should take a remedial course. Threads "aren't allowed" to take a divergent path during disucussions of any sort? You're not the only one reading the thread, it's for all to contribute to and offer opinions, and if the subject wanders a bit, what's wrong with that-- it generally makes disucssions more interesting. Who are you-- the thought police? Good-bye!
