![]() | Well, I would agree about Mac and Cheese. And no, I have never added sugar But some generic items are actually cheaper without sacrificing quality. Of course the trick is to find which ones. Generic drugs are generally a good example. "Malt-O-Meal" makes a large bag brand of cereal that is very good, and nearly half the cost. They don't pay for huge amounts of advertising or give royalties to Hanna Barbera to sell "Fruity Pebbles". Some trumpet makers make original designs. Some copy designs. Some "copy" (start with) a design and improve and modernize them. Some, like Kanstul do a little of all of them. So, I politely disagree ... sometimes generic copies can be very good or even an improvement. Jim

![]() | Jim, I tried... I REALLY tried to like the Malt O' Meal cereals but I just couldn't do it! It was their Cheerios style cereal that drove me back screaming to General Mills forever! The recipes can't be the same. Something's different. And dishwashing liquid... there's another one. I wound up using twice the amount of the name brand stuff so I spent more in the end! Yikes. ML |

![]() | ---NEVER--- buy store brand cheese!!!!! My friend tried it ("Look how cheap it is!") and it wasn't even palatable buried deep within a sandwich. The taste was...indescribable.

Dishwashing liquid is another product that has yet to come up to the same level. Window cleaner too. But you would be surprised how many of the generic brands are made by the original manufacturers for less. That way they keep the market. Sometimes it is the same stuff in a different package. Sometimes, it is not. There was a big news story in Colorado about 7 years ago when I lived there. A chain of gas stations was selling "regular, mid-grade and premium" gas. They only had one underground tank come to find out, they just filled the tank with premium gas and you choose what price to pay. People screamed "false advertising" and "fraud". But alas, they were giving a better product than advertised -- so they were not in any trouble ... but people got mad because they spent 30 cents a gallon more thinking they were getting something for their money and the regular was the same stuff. This discussion could go one forever. Like Tom Turner said, most of today's modern trumpets are a copy of the F. Besson in some way. That, is probably true and is what makes competition work. Even if you don't like "Malt-O-Meal" the pressure they apply keeps the brand names from gouging the prices. Same is true about the Mac and Cheese, ad nauseam. Jim

![]() | Before I get whacked, I should clarify about the dishes............. Yes, I do them too.... And my hands would get all dried and cracked........... But that was before I found out about "Udderly Smooth Udder Cream". Made for cows, but works on me too.......... (On my HANDS, that is)............ |

| Forte User | I prefer cereal in orange juice... On the topic of milk and orange juice, I prefer the store brand. I also prefer store brand bran flakes and shreaded wheat. I fill up on Exxon premium in Lebanon, and Keystop regular in Carthage. Sometimes I'll use the medium Amoco-stuff at BP. I just think I get more run doing that. *UGH* store brand cheese.... Mikey, what in the the hell would possess you to use "udder cream!??!" Van

| Pianissimo User | Monette Twins I just received an order for two Monette STC1 mouthpieces. I now have a B1-1 Prana, and a B1-1FL (I love big mouthpieces). For seveal years I have been playing a heavier B1-1Fl (customized by Harrelson) on a Harrelson 965 TritonII. The sound of this mouthpiece was awesome on this heavy horn but too much for my lighter B1 Schilke. Theses new STC1 "twins" as I call them, are nothing short of amazing. Like some who post here, I was skeptical of paying so much for a Mouthpiece-let alone two of them- but after 5 minutes on the horn with these new "bad boys" all I can say is WOW. I am a Prana convert! Concerning price:If your on a Safari don't waste your money until you know what you want. I played a Schilke 20d2d for 20 years so when I swithced to a Monette mouthpiece 2 years ago I planned on playing Monette for the long haul. Based on this the price is not an issue when you break it downn over years of blistful playing ha. Here is the"Wow" Prana factor I am experiencing: Open tonal center through out. My Schilke literally vibrates with overtones on the Prana...very cool. Huge fat sound. Improved upper range ( While I know you don't buy a B1-1 for screaming, the Prana does make hitting high notes easier). A more brilliant tonal quality. Con:As has been noted on this thread, the shank is so thin that I am terrified of dropping it. One fall would ruin it. Buy a case! One last thing that I may have missed reading about here concerning the difference of a Prana or Non Prana Monette, the finish is different on a Prana. On the Prana the exterior cup (not rim or shank) are brushed gold. Bottom Line: Dave's Mouthpieces for me are transformational!
